Monochromatic Mixed Media canvas

Hi, friends!
I hope you are all safe and well and I have a new project to share with you today!

I am delighted to be invited to guest design on the A Vintage Journey blog for their current challenge hosted by amazing and lovely Tracy and this is what I came up with, inspired by her awesome Monochromatic theme!

I started with some vintage baking tin mold and a coat of a Decoart media black gesso.

I put a coat of my Decoart chalky finich acrylic paint in brown on top.

I used my sponge to apply the paint randomly and while the paint was still wet I sprinkled some cinnamon on top of it to achieve a rust effect. Here is how this turned out.

Then I started to build the background of my canvas using some pieces of a vintage lace, some burlap, some lace trims and such.

I wanted to add some more texture so I used my favourite Tim Holtz stencil and my Golden crackle paste on top of my lace background.

This is a close up of my stencil work while the paste was still wet.

I like to play with my handmade weaving loom lately so I decided to create a woven piece in brown tones and to add it to my project.

I decided to go with a vintage style here and to use brown tones.  I cut out a circle out of an old book paper, stamped the image using my LaBlanche stamp and used some bees wax on top of the image. I glued down the image in the center of my rusted tin mold using the Tim Holtz distress vintage medium.

Here is a close up of my rusted mold.

I used my Distress stain sprays in brown tones on top of my textured background.

I also added some burlap, a piece of gauze, some lace trims and some cotton and burlap twines to create more textures. Then I used my Distress spray stains again on top of it.
That Prima metal trinket with the word Inspired is a gift from my lovely blog friend and a wonderful teamie Anne. Thank you so much, my friend!

I used some small nails to attach the woven piece to my canvas. I like how this turned out.

I hope I have inspired you to create your monochromatic mixed media piece and to join in AVJ's wonderful challenge this month.

Thank you AVJ for such an amazing opportunity to share my monochromatic creation with you today! I am truly honored!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments! I read and appreciate each and every one of them!

  6. Branka, I am nearly at a loss for words! This piece is not only inspired but also clever and absolutely stunning. I have so enjoyed seeing your step by step and seeing how you 'rusted' that tin - it is truly incredible and looks so beautiful against the gorgeous textured canvas and those equally gorgeous textiles. And to think you created that woven trim on your loom - wow, wow, wow! I love how you used the word 'inspire' too, it looks so beautiful on this fabulous creation! Truly, this is spectacular!!! It is wonderful to see you sharing your art at A Vintage Journey too, this will inspire many people Branka, me included!! Big hugs, Anne xxx
