Wings of Time art journal page

Hi, crafty friends!
I am back today with a new project to share with you.
I created an art journal page for a new challenge at Stamps and Stencils.
Our hostess for this month is lovely Sue and she has chosen the theme 'Time To Take Flight'!.
Here is my art journal page I created for this challenge.

Here is how Sue describes her challenge theme:
For this challenge I would like to see anything relating to flying, so this could be a bird or a butterfly or it could be an inspirational quote that includes words relating to flying ! As always, please remember we are a mixed media challenge and you must include either stamping or stenciling or both !

I started with some stamping using my black Archival ink, some Tim Holtz stamps and a white tissue paper.

I used my handmade art journal and started to build my textured background. I cut out some shapes out of manila cardstock using my Tim Holtz's mixed media dies. I glued them down along with the stamped tissue paper pieces. Then I covered it with a coat of white gesso using my palette knife to add more texture onto my background.

I wanted to achieve some grunge look so I decided to cover the whole page with a diluted Decoart media cobalt teal acrylic paint. Then I mixed my Golden Quinacridone gold paint with my Golden glaze medium in satin and applied it over my teal paint. After a minute I used my baby wipe to remove the glaze. That is how I achieved a kind of a grunge rust/patina look.
I cut out a butterfly out of a piece of corrugated cardboard using the Tim Holtz's Layered butterfly die. I put a coat of Decoart black gesso and then used my Decoart chalky finish paint in dark brown. I used my Decoart Quinacridone gold paint randomly on top and while the paint was still wet I sprinkled some cinnamon to achieve that rust effect. I attached my Idealogy arrow previously treated with black gesso and my Decoart Lustres, in the middle of my butterfly.

I decided to use some different types of alphabet stickers and Tim's Big talk stickers for the quote. I also used my Fine tip applicator with my black acrylic paint to handwrite the word OF.

A close up look of the faux rust butterfly.

I like how this grunge art journal page turned out and I hope that I have inspired you to create your mixed media piece for our 'Time To Take Flight!' challenge at Stamps and Stencils

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments! I read and appreciate each and every one of them!
