Home Sweet Home altered book

Hello, friends and visitors!
Spring is just around the corner which makes me so happy. If you love Spring like I do then you are going to love our new challenge theme at Stamps and Stencils!
Our lovely Toni is hostessing the challenge this month and she has chosen the theme: 'Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep - Put a Bird On It'!
This is how she describes her wonderful challenge theme:

One of the joys at this time of year, is to wake up to the glorious sound of birdsong. The challenge this month is in celebration of our fine, feathered, friends. We would love to see your mixed media projects, that include at least one bird. Whether it's a  journal spread, an assemblage or card, just make sure that a little dickie bird features somewhere. Please don't forget to include stamping, or stenciling or both. Can't wait to see your creations!

I was so inspired by Toni's challenge theme to alter a book and here is what I came up with:

I sterted with the book from a charity shop cutting out the middle of the pages.  To decorate the covers I used my Golden acrylic paint in Teal as a base and then my Golden Quinacridone gold paint through the brick stencil to create some texture.

I used those leftovers to stamp and draw some images. For the houses I used Penny Black's stamp set. Since I wanted to achieve some dimension I cut out the windows using my craft knife. To color my images I used my Loew Cornell watercolor cakes.

Then I started to layer my images inside the book. I used my glue stick to glue the images down.
I cut out the branch with the bird using the Sizzix Bird Branch Bigz die and my leftover book pages. I attached my colored branch onto the front cover of my book.
I stamped the quote using the stamp I had in my stash.

More close up photos.

I cut out the lamp post using one of my dies and painted it in black.

That is all for today.  I  hope that I have inspired you to create a mixed media piece that include at least one bird and to join in our challenge at Stamps and Stencils this month.
