Spring Is In The Air - reverse canvas

Hi, friends!
It's March already and it's time for our new challenge at Stamps and Stencils challenge blog!
Our hostess for this month's challenge is Rachel who has chosen the theme
'Spring is in the Air'!
Here is how she describes her challenge theme:
I want you to think about what the coming of spring means to you? Is it a colour burst, or maybe flowers? Whatever it is I would like you to show
us in a mixed media piece including stamping or stencilling or both! Looking forward to seeing what
you come up with!

I like the springtime when birds are coming back to build up their nests and I was inspired to create my vintage reverse canvas.

I started with gesso and my acrylic paints in brown tones to cover up all the edges. Then I applied my Golden crackle paste onto the edges and when it was dry I used my Distress stains in several different brown tones to achieve a kind of a weathered look to it.

For the inside of my reverse canvas I used a piece of scrap paper with birds and eggs from my stash. I added some doodling and stamping and used my bees wax with a heat gun on top of the paper. You can see how smooth that paper is. I love chicken wire so I attached it on top of my paper.

That Robin's nest I created out of a small Easter decoration I had in my stash. I cut the nest in half and painted it in brown using my paints and sprays. I also found some wooden eggs and painted them with my Americana paint and added some splatters with my brown paint. I put some moss and a piece of cheese cloth previously treated with my Distress stain spray. That bird is from Tim Holtz Idealogy set and I added some feathers behind the nest.

I created that 'broken piece of glass' out of an acetate using Tim's faux cracked glass technique. Some more moss and cheese cloth were added to the corner. Then I picked up some twigs in my yard and attached them to my canvas.

I used my Distress stains, distress inks and glimmer mists to colour my chipboard elements. I cut out that small butterfly out of some scrap paper and attached it onto the chicken wire. Those paper rolls I created using some distressed paper, my Finnabair stamp and a piece of thread.
I also added some more cheese cloth pieces, a dried flower and a Tim's word sticker.

I hope I have inspired you to create a wonderful mixed media project for our Spring is in the Air challenge at Stamps and Stencils!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments! I read and appreciate each and every one of them!
Have a great crafty day!
Hugs!

  17. GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS - LOVE LOVE LOVE Branka. Wow. I so adore reverse canvas projects and yours is just the epitome of spring. GORGEOUS. You are so right - spring is a blessing. My favorite parts are the chicken wire and the lovely feathers. But it's all just so INTERESTING and PRECIOUS. We have 50 bluebird houses on the ranch and they have already started to return to them!!! So that makes your project even more special to see!! XX j.
