Mixed Media Vintage Tag

Hello friends and visitors!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!

It's my first post in 2017 and I want to share with you a vintage tag I created for a new challenge at Stamps and Stencils!
Ruth is hostessing the challenge this month and she has chosen the theme 'Swirls, Whirls and Flourishes'.
This is how she describes her challenge theme:
It may be chilly January but this months challenge doesn't have to be anything to do with winter, this month I'd like you to usher in the New Year by creating any mixed media piece you like as long as somewhere you include a swirl or a whirl or a flourish and some stamping or stenciling, of course!

***

Here is what I created for this wonderful challenge theme.

I started with my manila tag and I glued down Tim Holtz tissue paper on top. I used my palette knife to apply the texture paste on the left side of my tag through the Tim Holtz Flourish stencil.

Next, I applied a coat of white gesso and I used a baby wipe and my Decoart media paint in Cobalt Turquoise on top.
I also used my Paper artsy Infusions in Violet Storms on top of my stenciled flourishes.
I wanted to achieve some grunge look so I made a glaze by mixing the Liquitex Basics Raw umber with my Golden satin glaze and applied it onto my tag. After a minute, I gently wiped off the glaze with my baby wipe.
This is the result.

I attached some hand dyed seam binding, some vintage ribbon and a sari ribbon on top of my tag with my tiny attacher.

For my focal image I used a card from the Tim Holtz Found relatives set and cut out a lady image. Since I wanted to achieve some worn effect, I used the Tim Holtz sanding grip to distress the edges of my image. Then I used my DI in vintage photo on top.

For the quote I used a sticker form the Tim Holtz small talk sticker sheet. I also attached some vintage ribbons on the bottom of my tag.

I applied some gold guilding wax on top of my flourishes.

I hope that I have inspired you to create your mixed media piece for our Swirls, Whirls and Flourishes challenge at Stamps and Stencils!
