Hi, crafty friends!
I hope you are all doing well enjoying the colors of this beautiful season!
I am here today to share with you my abstract mixed media project I created for our new challenge at Anything But Cute!
Our dear and lovely Autumn is hostessing the challenge this month and she has chosen the theme 'An Autumn Day'!
I really enjoyed the colors of this beautiful season and I was inspired to create an abstract mixed media canvas for this wonderful challenge theme.
This is what I came up with.
Back to the challenge...This is how Autumn describes her challenge theme:
I could not help but chose October as my month to hostess here at Anything But Cute. This month, we want to see your creations inspired by An Autumn Day. Anything goes mixed media with an fall color palette, or Autumnal elements. Be inspired by nature with the sights, smells, and sounds of this beautiful season. We cannot wait to see the amazing artwork you turn out!

I decided to use my new Pebeo mixed media products (Vitrail paints, Fantasy Moon, Fantasy Prisme) for the first time and I was pretty unsure about the result.
I apologize for not taking the creating process photos since I enjoyed the process so much that I totally forgot to take some photos :)
Besides, those of you who had a chance to try these amazing products know what I am talking about. These paints have incredible effects hidden within their pigments that take place right before your eyes. It's like an alchemy and when you start to play with these you just can't stop :) I could only filmed the process but maybe next time...
These are the products and tools I've used for this project.
I started with applying my Vitrail paints in several tones, mostly red and green as a base, using my palette knife. These paints are oil based so it's much easier to clean the palette knife than a brush :)
Then I went crazy with different colors of Fantasy Moon and Prisme and the magic has started. These things are alive, I am telling you and they are just perfect for mixed media projects. The best I've had a chance to try.
I used my popsicle sticks to apply the Fantasy paints.
When I was satisfied with the result, I put some golden leaves on some parts of my canvas and let the whole thing to dry overnight.
Next day, I used my Pebeo Studio Dyna blue green acrylic paint on the edges of my canvas and my Viva Rusty paper paint to add some more interest.
I used my gold contour paint on some spots to create some random shapes and I dropped a bit of my Fantasy Prisme paint in violet color into those created shapes. I also removed the excess of my golden leaves with my dry brush.
You can see what kind of amazing effects you can get with these paints. I am happy with the result.
I hope that I have inspired you to create your mixed media piece for our 'An Autumn Day' challenge at Anything But Cute!
The winner will receive the honour of being our Feature Artist for an upcoming challenge!
At Anything But Cute we just love to see all the seasoned and expert mixed media artists, but we also want to encourage those who are just getting their feet wet. Our design team will always be on the lookout for these exceptional projects and artists. You just never know when we might be giving out something special to a lucky mixed media newcomer. We all have to start somewhere, right?
Challenge runs until November 4th - we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Wow, Branka! I sure did appreciate the close ups and your fabulous post to describe what you did to get this organic look! I've never heard of these paints, but I sure to need to add them to my wish list. I'm especially intrigued by the purple spots--they really look like slices of a rare stone. Is the gold contour paint from the same maker? Excuse me if that's a duh question. Genius use of the gold leafing!!! I have a box full of that stuff, and you have inspired me to get it out and put it to use. This is one beautiful and creative take on Autumn's theme! Big hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, thanks so much, my friend! Yes, that gold contour paint is from the Pebeo line, too. Oh, they have everything I love :) Hugs! B xx
DeleteOh Branka! This is absolutely surreal! The blending and pooling, mimicking marbling, is unbelievable! I so wish I could watch you at work and see the magic in person! You've really created a beauty, perfectly fitting for our theme. Thank you my friend and happy autumn to you! Big hugs, Autumn
ReplyDeleteWow - what an amazing piece of painty experimentation - the effects are extraordinary, and the colours summon up a vivid blue-sky autumn day so well.

I saw these paints being used on a TV craft show and thought they were OK but seeing this gorgeous canvas Branka, they are more than OK - they are sensational! I love how you used the contour paint and the way the purple paint has 'split' into sections, they look truly amazing. You really have captured an amazing autumnal day, this is so beautiful!! Hugs, Anne xx
