Earth Day challenge at Anything But Cute

Hello, friends!
I hope you are safe and well and have a wonderful day!
It's time for a new challenge at Anything But Cute and our lovely Samra has chosen the theme 'Earth Day'!

As soon as I saw Samra's beautiful mood board I was so inspired by those blue and green tones and that awesome butterfly to create my mixed media mini canvas and here is the result:

Now, back to the challenge.

Here is how Samra describes her challenge theme:
Create a mixed media project inspired by this mood board and the beauty of our planet. Please tell us what inspired you. Entries for this challenge can be echo friendly, or even recycled/upcycled items; or depiction of the sea, mountain, river, forest, flowery meadow…let’s celebrate our planet!

What a beautiful and inspirational mood board, isn't it?

I started with building the texture on my background by adding some pieces of gauze:

I added some Glass Beads paste and some Art Stones:

I continued to build up my layers by adding some Liquitex Modeling paste randomly and then I went with my white thread all over the canvas.
I used my blue and green Dylusions ink sprays to color the background.

To create my butterfly I used my Tim Holtz Layered butterfly die and cut out 3 lace butterflies. I used my Decoart misters to color them in three different colors. Then I used my Sculpture medium to create a dimension for each layer. I connected all the layers with a brad and added some flatback pearls for the body.

I hope that I have inspired you to celebrate planet Earth with us this month.
Challenge runs until May 4th - we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving lovely comments! I read and appreciate each and every one of them!

Hugs! Branka xx

  11. B, I love how you added all the yummy and deliscious texture to your canvas. Building up the layers and then adding the string is genius, then you go and add such wonderful colors. Dearie, this is awesome sauce! I was totally wondering how you got the lace to not bend and now after ing reading your lovely process steps, I know. I didn't realize how much texture those art stones give. Those are going on my wish list! Wowzers and stunning design! Hugz to you muffin! ~Niki
